Lisa Nash

Data Scientist + Designer

As a data scientist in IDEO’s San Francisco studio, Lisa is on a mission to understand what impact can be created when the data scientists and designers collaborate be it for high-level strategy or prototyping products and services. Since joining IDEO in 2017 as a part of the Datascope acquisition, she was one of the pioneers integrating data science into multidisciplinary teams. Before joining IDEO, Lisa earned a Ph.D. in Physics from the University of Chicago. She fell in love with data science when she volunteered as a research assistant for UChicago's Data Science for Social Good program. She is deeply curious and spends weekends playing tourist throughout the Bay. She is also a proud parent to her very cute pet bunny, Jackie. 

Ian Murray

Head of Product Data Science

Ian is the current Head of Product Data Science at Twitch overseeing a team of data scientists and data engineers. In that role, he has guided the development of a number of high-impact data products including AutoMod, Twitch's industry-leading suite of moderation tools (continuously improving automated moderation of text content, proactive prevention of offensive usernames, and detection of fraudulent account activity). Prior to Twitch, Ian studied Materials Science, Applied Physics, and Computational Chemistry at Cornell (BS) and Northwestern (MS, PhD) and developed a broad set of data science skills working as a consultant for ZS Associates and building a data science team for Humin, a mobile app startup acquired by Tinder in 2016.

James Raybould

Director of Product, Learning Solutions

James is the Director of Product for Learning Solutions at LinkedIn, blending the foundation of Lynda.com's high quality learning content with LinkedIn's network of 500M+ professionals to offer a suite of best-in-class learning products. He was previously Senior Director of Marketing for Talent Solutions at LinkedIn.

Peter Gilks

West Coast Program Manager

A director of product insights at Spotify, Peter has a passion for using data to understand our world and make better decisions. He focuses on connecting business and product questions to data science and qualitative research solutions.

Tamanna Kottwani

Product Manager

Tamanna is a Product Manager at Microsoft. She currently leads Yammer’s mobile products and focuses on product strategy, concept to launch execution, growth  and team development. Tamanna received her MBA from the Wharton School and is currently based in San Francisco. She has over six years of experience working in the technology industry ranging across hardware and software and industry verticals like healthcare, automotive, retail, consumer products.

Prateek Sharma

VP Product

Prateek is a product leader who is excited about building and investing in high impact consumer products. Currently, he leads product at Duta, building apps on top of WhatsApp for the Next Billion Users. In the past, Prateek has run and sold his own startup. He has also led product groups at large publicly listed companies.

Stephanie Young

Co-founder & CEO

Stephanie has four degrees from Stanford including a computer science MS and an MBA from the GSB. She previously worked at Google where she was part of the Ads and YouTube teams and spent brief periods of time at McKinsey and an early stage VC firm in Singapore. She's passionate about social impact work. She's currently the CEO and co-founder of Riva which uses ML and automation to help people, especially women, negotiate their job offers.

Dennis Boyle

General Partner

Dennis Boyle is a Partner and a founding member of IDEO. Based in San Francisco, he leads the Health and Wellness practice, which works with clients in the medical and consumer health-care industries to develop innovative products and strategies for promoting healthful living and behavior change. Over the course of his IDEO career, he has worked as a design engineer, a project leader, a business relationship leader, a studio leader, and a practice leader. He has helped us build and nurture many key, long-term client relationships, including Silicon Valley tech firms, Fortune 100 consumer businesses, and health-care companies. He has contributed to more than 50 patents. Dennis is a consulting assistant professor for the Design Division of Stanford University’s Mechanical Engineering School, where he’s contributed to courses on product, engineering, and human factors design, as well as design for sustainability and creativity and innovation. 

Theresa Man

Lead Designer

Teresa has a background in advertising, graphic design, and consulting. She currently leads design at Superhuman to create a delightful email experience that allows people to get through their inboxes twice as fast. Previous to that, she has led design teams at a digital consulting agency in New York and Toronto. Outside of design, she is passionate about volunteering, biking, and all things books.

Kam Keshmiri

Senior Designer

Kam Keshmiri is the Senior Director of Design For Augmented Intelligence at IDEO San Francisco. He has more than 18 years of experience as an interaction designer and creative leader in both the US and London. Based in Silicon Valley, Kam partners with established technology leaders, Fortune 500 companies and ambitious startups to guide the user experiences and intelligent systems of tomorrow. Some of Kam’s recent work includes shaping intelligent products for the home and workplace, building a creative talent-matching venture for a software platform, guiding the development of a new electric vehicle charging ecosystem, and enabling a global software company to bring its first hardware product to market. 

Ana Santos

Founder, UX Lead

Ana is a UX & Conversion Rate Optimization (CRO) consultant who's passionate about teaching and mentoring. She's the founder of Iterateev, a UX consulting agency based in Portugal, and she's also a Springboard UX Career Track Mentor. Throughout her UX journey, Ana has worked with companies like Google, where she has co-led the Mobile UX initiative in Portugal by helping some of the biggest organizations in the country improve the mobile experience on their websites.

Earl Friedberg

UX Lead

Earl Friedberg is a lead UX designer at Google. He has shipped major releases for Gmail, Hangouts & BlackBerry OS. He is currently a UX mentor with Springboard.

Débora Edelberg

Product Designer

Débora is a Product Designer of Human-Friendly Digital Experiences, always curious about how people think, feel, behave and interact with the world. She enjoys solving complex problems and thinks technology has to adapt to people (not the other way around). Débora has over 10 years experience in designing multi-platform digital products using UCD (user centered design) principles. She has worked across several industries including Aerospace, Banking, scheduling, non-profit and some e-commerce.

Rama Kumar Pasumarthi

Software Engingeer

Rama Kumar Pasumarthi is a Software Engineer at Google AI, and primarily works on TensorFlow Ranking, a machine learning framework for ranking. He holds a M.Sc. in Language Technologies from the School of Computer Science, Carnegie Mellon University and a B.Tech. from the Indian Institute of Technology Madras. Rama’s publications have appeared in the proceedings of AAMAS, AAAI, KDD, SIGIR and in academic journals. His research interests are in Machine Learned Ranking, Conversational AI and Semantic Search.

Andy Bandyopadhyay

Head of Science

Andy Bandyopadhyay is the head of science at Even, where he manages data science and user research teams working together to end the paycheck-to-paycheck cycle. Prior to Even, Andy built the research and consumer insights function at Varo Money, a startup bank. Andy holds a PhD in science and technology policy from the Georgia Institute of Technology.

Somudro Gupta

Motion Planning & Controls Lead

Somudro leads the motion planning and controls team at Embark, the world's leading developer of self-driving trucks. He has over 10 years of robotics experience ranging from humanoids and industrial robot arms to autonomous vehicles. Prior to joining Embark he worked on planning and deep learning at Volkswagen's Electronics Research Lab. He was the US planning lead for Jack, a self-driving Audi A7 that drove itself 550 miles from the Bay Area to Las Vegas. Somudro holds five autonomous driving patents, a B.S. in Mechanical Engineering from Columbia University, and M.S. in Mechanical Engineering from the University of Texas at Austin.

Rahul Gupta

Perception Engineer

Rahul is a software engineer at Cruise, and is passionate about utilizing data to make Intelligent systems. He is a self-taught Machine Learning Engineer who made a career-switch after working in Quantitative Finance/Algorithmic trading industry for 3 years.

Mitul Tiwari

CTO and Co-founder

Mitul Tiwari is the CTO and Co-founder of Passage.AI, where he is building Conversational AI platform using some of the latest deep learning technologies. His expertise lies in building data-driven products using AI, Machine Learning and big data technologies. Previously he was head of People You May Know and Growth Relevance at LinkedIn, where he led technical innovations in large-scale social recommender systems. Prior to that, he worked at Kosmix (now Walmart Labs) on web-scale document and query categorization, and its applications. He earned his PhD in Computer Science from the University of Texas at Austin and his undergraduate degree from the Indian Institute of Technology, Bombay. He has also co-authored more than twenty publications in top conferences such as KDD, WWW, RecSys, VLDB, SIGIR, CIKM, and SPAA.

D’laila Pereira

Director of Product Management

D’laila Pereira drives AllyO’s product roadmap for candidate recruiting automation, employee experience and conversational AI. She was previously the Director of Product Management at Visa, and a Principal Product Manager at Peel. D'laila has completed her MBA from Wharton and holds a MS in CS from UIUC.

Preet Singh

CEO

Preet Singh is CEO at Enginelitix, which provides AI solutions to revenue-facing problems. Previous experience includes head of AI at Carlabs.ai, Lead Data Scientist at Thrive, and consulting roles at several Fortune 100 companies. He studied Computer Science & Economics at the University of Rochester, and Algorithmic Economics and Artificial Intelligence at Northwestern University. His research publications include algorithm design and artificial intelligence.

Megan Cartwright

Director of Data Science

Megan studies beliefs, attitudes and motivations and their influence on needs and behaviors within the education space. Before joining CZI, she worked at Facebook as a mixed methods UX Researcher in the payments and commerce spaces. She graduated from University of Michigan with a PhD in Consumer Behavior, but her desire for collaboration and real world impact drew her back to industry from academia. When not studying people, she likes cooking, reading and walking her dog.

Nalin Gupta

Co-founder - Autonomous Driving Division

Nalin is the Director of Business Development for the Autonomous Driving Division of Ridecell where he is responsible for shaping the technology and growing the Autonomous Business Operations for Ridecell worldwide. Honoree of Forbes 30 Under 30 award, Nalin has several patents and journal publications to his credit. Prior to Ridecell, Nalin was the CEO and Co-Founder of Auro, which was acquired by Ridecell in 2017. Auro-enabled shuttles are among the first driverless shuttles to be put into daily operations. Nalin holds a Master’s degree in Electronics and Electrical Communication from the Indian Institute of Technology Kharagpur, India.

Lisa Shek

COO

Lisa runs partnerships and operations at 81cents. From bargaining in markets in Bali to negotiating contracts at work, negotiating has always felt like a game to her. Lisa is thrilled to bring that game feel to stressful salary negotiations and uncover more revenue for all women  

Lisa has a B.S in Cognitive Science with a Computing specialization from UCLA and an HBX CORe certification from Harvard Business School.

Esme Gaisford

Alumni Panelist- Data Science

Esme Gaisford is a Senior Data Analyst at Pandora. Her team analyzes user behavior and large-scale data to provide business insights and produce core business metrics for various departments. Previously, Esme co-founded a conscious consumer App, worked as a B2B scientific writer, as well as has conducted research in cancer biology. Esme comes from a liberal arts education background and holds a graduate degree in Biomedical Research (Cancer and Genetics)

Sarmad Tanwir

Sarmad Tanwir is a Data Scientist with Kaiser Permanente where he builds analytical frameworks for population health management and hospital operations optimization. He holds a PhD in Computer Engineering from Virginia Tech and has previously worked as a software developer in aerospace and defense.

Shirley Zhu

Alumni Panelist- Data Science

Shirley Zhu is a Senior Data Scientist at Uber. Her team works on an experimentation platform that helps other Data Scientists, engineers, and PMs to create, analyze and monitor large-scale, controlled, online experiments. Before joining Uber, Shirley was a technical project manager with the California Environmental Protection Agency and holds a PhD in environmental engineering.

Sunil Ayyappan

Sunil Ayyappan is currently working as a Senior Technical Program Manager for the Artificial Intelligence Group at LinkedIn. He graduated from the Data Science Career Track last year, and previously holds an MS in Computer science. Sunil completed the career track in just two months and attended the first Springboard Rise event in 2018 

Collin Sansom

Alumni Panelist- UX Design

Collin Sansom is a product designer, entrepreneur, and photographer. He is head of design, (aka the sole designer), at TractManager, a healthcare technology company focused on improving patient experiences by helping hospitals make better financial decisions. When he's not spreading the power of design thinking throughout healthcare, he is looking for ways to push specialty coffee forward, primarily through his brewing companion app: SlowBar. Previously, he had the great privilege to cofound Craftwork Coffee Co., a network of specialty coffee shops with adjoined coworking spaces in central Texas.

Sera Tajima

After completing Springboard, Sera got a job as a product designer for growth at Hired. She studied at UC Berkeley. In her free time, she enjoys getting to know the industry more, whether that's reading or grabbing a coffee with another designer. In the future, she looks to further her skill set by writing about design on Medium, working on side projects, and attending figure drawing classes.

Born and raised Texan, George graduated from Dartmouth in 2015 with degrees in Economics and History and completed the Springboard Data Science Career track in June 2018. He's currently a Data Scientist for Hypergiant's Space Age Solutions division, consulting for companies of varied sizes and industries. When he's not working, George is with his five-month old puppy, consuming tons of MMA and Boxing content, and generally scheming about the future.

Lai Jing Chu completed her Springboard UX Career Track in May. She is now a full-time UX Designer at Empowerly — the startup which she worked on for the industry design project of the Springboard curriculum. Before her career transition, she was a Ph.D. student in Architecture at UC Berkeley.

At Kendo Brands, Heidi has been tasked with an overhaul of the Kat Von D Beauty digital experience: rebuilding email templates, social advertising campaigns, e-commerce site, ADA compliance, and product design.

Joseph Earnshaw

Tar Heel alum #GDTBATH, who likes to explore anything and everything that piques his interest. Joe got his professional start at Oracle, then took a detour down to Costa Rica to teach English. After that, Joe ended up back in California, where he currently coaches CrossFit and is finishing up his Springboard Course. He is passionate about data science and is excited about using that passion to help individuals live healthier and happier lives through the use of data.
